Who we are

Team Overbot is an all-volunteer effort. We're a group of senior engineering people in Silicon Valley. Many of us are Stanford alumni, though one of us went to MIT. All of us have done previous robotics, navigation, or related work. Most of us have been through a high-tech startup; some of us have run them.

MartinFlory writes 'SolarPC has announced the $100 personal computer. Steve Ballmer's idea for reducing piracy was great after all, since this computer runs on Linux (DSL Distro). 'The design and construction of the SolarLite is consistent with the goal of an environmentally friendly computer. Gambit- Why not? Sarcasm Triffid Linux owns me. Why are we doing this? Our motives vary. But we all see that it's possible to do this. We have the technology. It could be the next big thing. That's how Silicon Valley makes things happen.

How does it work?

The simplified version:

We bought the fastest available commercial 6 wheel drive ATV, and put electric motors on the steering, throttle, shifter, and brake. We put a scanning laser rangefinder and a TV camera on top, a radar on the front, and a few other sensors around the vehicle. All these connect to computers, five of them.

DARPA gives us a CD-ROM two hours before the race with about 1000 GPS waypoints. Those give us a general idea of what the route is, but we have to deal with the real world along the way. If the waypoints put us on a road, the vehicle follows the road; if we're off-road, the laser rangefinder profiles the ground ahead, and looks for reasonably flat places to go. On tough terrain, the vehicle slows down, shifts to low, engages six wheel drive, and grinds its way through. If there's an obstacle or the terrain becomes impossible to drive over, the vehicle backs off and looks for a better route.

The technical version:

In EE380, at Stanford, on September 24, 2003, we gave a technical presentation.

Look before you leap

If you enjoy a challenge, then look no further, as this title is one of the most challenging games available. Just don't take your failure in-game too harshly.

One step at a time

Mac
Get ready to rage when you are playing this game, because playing it may physically want you to break your computer.

Notorious for its difficulty and high levels of rage quitting, Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a 2D side-scrolling game where your goal is to reach the other side of the map. The terrain is littered with steep slopes, cliffs, and other obstacles that may prove too difficult to surpass.

You play by moving a hammer with your cursor as you drag and launch yourself along, climbing over trees and canyons. Beware! The controls are awkward to use, and you may soon find yourself at the bottom of a cliff you struggled to climb for over twenty minutes.

The game can be especially frustrating to try and play, let alone complete. There are no checkpoints, and you log in where you left off. This means that when you fail, you could be stuck trying to get past an obstacle that was nearly impossible to get past. You risk losing all your progress with every movement.

What makes up for all your failures is the narration, which is full of sarcastic and hilarious quotes that keep you going whenever you fail. At the end of the game, you'll find a special reward. That is, if you're able to reach the end game at all. Either way, you'll either find this challenge fun or utterly annoying as you'll fail very often.

Where can you run this program?

Journey (1989) mac os. This game is available for the latest versions of Mac, Windows, and Linux. It is also available on Android and Apple devices.

Is there a better alternative?

No, Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a unique game that challenges you to complete it, though you'll fail many times trying to do so. One of the previous popular challenging games is Flappy Bird.

Our take

This game will annoy you, frustrate you and make you rage quit. If you're up for a challenge, then you may enjoy it.

Should you download it?

Yes, but you need to be up for the challenging gameplay and the failure that awaits you. If you're a perfectionist, then this is not for you.
